Ping (Packet Internet Groper) is a program that tests the connectivity to a particular web site and the Internet. It contacts other computers or web servers. Pinging sends a signal (a packet) from the computer to another computer or server. It is like tapping someone on the shoulder. It is just a brief "tap" to say "Are you there?". If a user is connected to the Internet, he or she should be able to ping most public sites.
